Govan Graving Docks Stories

Did you work in the Govan Graving Docks in Glasgow when they were still in operation? Do you know someone who did? Perhaps parents, grandparents or great grandparents who worked in the dry docks at the height of Clyde shipbuilding?

If so please post your stories in the comments section below.

Hi, my father was employed by Harland & Wolf’s as an engineers helper, he worked in the graving dock occasionally and nearly lost his head when a hawser snapped. I also have worked on ship repairs in the dock, I was a ship’s joiner, not sure which yard was doing the repairs, but worked for Blythswood, Barclay Curle, Fairfield & John Browns
